Back to Prisoners of the Sun?

So, a long time ago we were told that Tintin 2 would be adapted from the album Prisoners of the Sun (and The Seven Crystal Balls, which precedes it). Then we were told that it not be those two, and we were left guessing and speculating. Now it appears that they might have stuck with the original plan. But the info is still questionable, so don’t count on knowing all the facts just yet. The information comes from the Latinos Post that cites an interview from ScreenCrush. The line of interest for Tintin fans, written at the end of the article, is:

Kennedy was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her work on “Lincoln” and is currently in Pre-production for “The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun”

Now this isn’t a direct quote from Kennedy and we can’t find anything elsewhere to back this up. But it is possible that she revealed it and everybody is so interested in Star Wars VII, the focus of the article, that few have given the info much attention. On the other hand, it is possible that Latino Post is working on outdated information.

I still think Prisoners of the Sun would be a great adventure to introduce Calculus in (and even stay true to the chronology of Tintin). I’ve been saying this for months, but hopefully new news will come soon.

I really doubt it. It’s a very common mistake that people are making, because Prisoners of the Sun was supposed to be Tintin 2 at one point, but now I think it’ll be Tintin 3.

What most likely happened is that the Latinos Post went on Kathleen Kennedy’s iMDB page, where ‘The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun’ is listed as a film in pre-production, and took that as a fact. That or it’s from an other website that did the same mistake.
    Either way, they’re probably wrong.

I think you are probably right. I still won’t believe it until we hear definite confirmation. Earlier interviews, especially Spielberg’s remarks, make it clear that they want to be deliberately secretive for now.

Another source calling it “Prisoners of the Sun”. However, i think it is all just because of the IMDB page. btw, has it been confirmed production will begin in November?

  4. Archibald Says:

I think absolutely nothing has been confirmed yet.

  5. Alex Says:

Yeah, the rumors only started due to a tweet by Anthony Horowitz. Ugh!

http://cinema.jeuxactu.com/news-cinema-les-aventures-de-tintin-2-le-tournage-en-2014-20975.htm – Seems correct that the movie is coming out in 2015!

  7. Archibald Says:

Little reminder : the mo-cap for the first movie was done early in 2009, and the film was released late in 2011.

So I don’t see how they’re gonna release the sequel in 2015 if production begins in 2014. Clearly an article written by someone who doesn’t know how long it takes to go from mo-cap to the finished thing.

    2016 seems more likely.

Then again, now they have most of the character designs and such, which they didn’t have before.

  9. Alex Says:

Anthony Horowitz tweeted he “thinks” Tintin 2 is coming out.

He just doesn’t want to reveal anything. I have a feeling the script is done but PJ is too busy to shoot. Since filming of The Hobbit films wrapped about a month ago maybe he will finally have time.

  11. Tintin Fan Says:

Sir Peter Jackson – Peter Jackson to shoot Tintin 2 in 2013.

Despite being busy working on ‘The Hobbit’ franchise, Sir Peter Jackson has revealed plans to film a ‘Tintin’ sequel next year and he is eyeing a 2015 release.

That article came out almost a year ago man.

That article you posted was back in December 2012. If we dont get news soon, I tihnk we need to assume 2015 is not possible.

http://www.moviezine.se/artikel/12730-storyn-ar-klar-for-tintin-2 <- This article was made in March 2013. It says that they're finished with the story and will start the Motion Capture at the end of 2013, and hopefullt have a finished movie around christmas 2015. Since then I haven't heard any news about something different than that, and we have just finished summer. Maybe they actually are going to Motion Capture it soon, who knows.
