Four years ago I remember I was on vacation in Germany (or ”on holiday,” for those of you in the UK), hopelessly addicted to this site and frustrated because Chris had not posted a new post in weeks (he was away as well). The irony is that now I’m the one going away leaving the site ”postless” for a bit. But don’t worry. I will still have access to the internet at McDonald’s, and in a week I will have access all of the time.
The best thing about this vacation, at least as far as it concerns this blog, is that I will get to visit Nyon, Switzerland, the home city of professor Topolino in The Calculus Affair. The house he lives in (and almost dies in) is modeled detail for detail after a real house in the town. Several things in the background of the album are also real locations. As a Tintin fan, it will be a special treat to visit. Also, I hope to stop by the Hotel Cornavin, which really exists, and see a sign Herge drew for the hotel after they complained because tourist after tourist wanted to stay in the room Calculus stayed in, which actually did not exist due to the way the hotel numbered their rooms. I’ve heard rumors that since then the hotel has changed their numbering system to allow visitors to stay in the room, but I am not sure if that’s true. In three weeks time, I’ll update the site with a post with pictures of my trip and any other interesting Tintin trivia people in Switzerland might tell me.
Have a wonderful summer while I’m away, but make sure to check back for posts. I may schedule some posts to come onto the internet even when I’m not at my computer.
