Tintin Chess!

Ok, this is for those of you who live in Europe: how many of you have ever seen an incredible Asterix chess board and thought to yourself ”Wouldn’t it be awesome if they made a Tintin chess set?” I sure did, multiple times, and now it’s coming out. I’m a huge fan of chess, and have a few of these themed chess boards that, while not really practical when it comes to actually playing chess, are lots of fun to collect. Like the Unicorn model, these are being released in French kiosks piece by piece (come to think of it, it’s funny that both a Tintin model ship and chess set are being released ”piece by piece”…). I don’t live in France, nor plan to, so I probably will never own this…but it’s just cool that it’s coming out, and is plenty of fun to look at.

Xadrez Tintin

Of course, Tintin would be the King!

I’m curious who the other pieces will be. If this were solely based off of the books, I would make Rastapopoulous the other king, but it will most likely be ”Red Rackham” as he appears on the Karaboudjan. Maybe Omar Ben Salaad will be queen…

I think the Thompsons would have made good knight’s or Bishop’s, keeping the board in symetry. But it seems Thomson is a pawn. That actually fit’s his character a little better…

Based on the picture, Tintin is the King, Haddock a Knight and thomson is the bishop.

Also your link does not work and I can not find any website regarding this collection. Still looking.

Thanks! You guys are right! The bishop looked like a pawn to me from the picture.

That looks awesome! I live in Belgium so I think/hope they will sell it too here! By the way, I remember something like that but then with Harry Potter chess, you had to collect it every week, this is just the same but then with Tintin! What a wonderful idea!

Who’s the queen of these sets then? Bianca Castafiore?

Speaking of which, we haven’t seen any snapshots of her yet. She is meant to be in this movie, isn’t she?

Also, did anybody else know that Tintin’s Portuguese friend Oliveira da Figueira was originally going to be in the movie, played by Danny DeVito? He was gonna have a minor role, but his character was cut from the final script.

Now while I would love to see Oliveira in the movie, I don’t think DeVito suits the character. Sure, it’s motion capture, and they do kind of look alike anyway, I don’t think the voice would work. I’ve always thought DeVito would play someone along the lines of Rastapopoulos. Works a little better, don’t you think?

Also, this may be irrelevant, but I am a big fan of Rik Mayall. He is my biggest influence for my sense of humour, as seen in my old review series, in which the Tintin in Tibet video game was discussed. Now, I bring this up, because if anyone else here is familiar with him, which Tintin character do you think suits Mayall for a film? I doubt he’ll be in any of them, but hey, I can dream, so if he could be in one, who could he play?
