Tintin video game to appear at E3
We have long hoped that Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn: the video game be revealed at the E3 2011 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) on June 6. Our hopes have been confirmed. Tintin was on the list of Ubisoft games to be revealed (and misspelled I might add…)
This exposes the old myth that the game will only come out for DS and Wii. UPDATE: upon further investigation, it turns out IGN doesn’t have any confirmation about what platforms the game will come out for. The following note is on their page.
NOTE: This game has been officially announced but has not been confirmed for any specific platform — it may or may not be released on this platform. Please check back for official info.
So,while it seems unlikely that the game would only be released for DS and Wii, we will just have to wait to find out.
Now it would be very odd for the video game to be revealed without some kind of trailer coming out before hand. I expect a teaser trailer at least to come out some time late this month or about the same time as E3. I can hardly wait!

Very special thanks to Tom for finding this info!

That’s a very cool find, Tom! I’m especially pleased that the game will come out for PC and the fact that it’s getting a tuly multiplatfor treatment a release of this stature deserves.
And with that we can contunue speculating. As Stephen said, the game is likely to come with some sort of gameplay footage which may be indicative of the fact that we’ll see something from the movie simultaneously or prior to E3. My money is on a teaser trailer before Super 8 (June 10) and a full 3D trailer with Transofrmers 3 (June 29) or Cowboys & Aliens (July 29).
May 3rd, 2011 at 4:55 pmJust a quick note: I am using American dates – the trailer can very well come out in Europe even earlier.
May 3rd, 2011 at 5:08 pmAnd I gotta backtrack some on a earlier comment. Just found this when I clicked on a PC page for the game on IGN:
“NOTE: This game has been officially announced but has not been confirmed for any specific platform — it may or may not be released on this platform. Please check back for official info. ” Hmmm.
May 3rd, 2011 at 5:10 pmHmm didn’t look at that,
May 3rd, 2011 at 6:21 pmbut it still wouldn’t be a smart move only for the wii like they first said
@Proman
I was just about to post that! It says it on every entry, so maybe it will just come for DS and Wii… oh well, even if it does release on PC, it probably won’t be that great anyway.

May 4th, 2011 at 9:07 amI’m not going to lie. Due to my past experiences with a Tintin game (the experience posted here some time ago), I can happily say I’m not all that excited by this game. However, I will admit I am excited about its announcement, because it means we’re finally drawing closer to a trailer for the movie.
Regarding the Tintin in Tibet game I reviewed years ago, I will admit I have played other ports of the same game (the Game Boy Color version being the best of all of them), but it still doesn’t change my disappointed expectations regarding this game.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:44 amAlso, I know this is old news, but in 1994 there was a half-hour documentary called Opening Shot, and it was all about Tintin. It stars Harry Thompson, a Tintinologist, and even has interviews with the English translators Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper and Michael Turner.
Also, there’s some interesting archive footage of Hergé speaking English, as well as English children and students talking about why they love Tintin so much. For half an hour, it’s a very entertaining documentary.
The video is on Youtube, in three parts. Here is the link to the first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVRBS5B9suM
May 4th, 2011 at 11:29 amAlthough I don’t have very high hopes for the game, it would be unfiar to judge it already just because all previous Tintin games have been poor. By that logic we could expect that Spielberg and Jackson’s Tintin movie will be bad just because movies like ”Tintin and the golden fleece” came out. Besides being based off of Tintin both the movie and the game have nothing to do with their predecessors. I’m going to give them a chance.
May 4th, 2011 at 12:04 pmHowever, even Avatar, which made over a billion dollars in theaters and was done excellently on screen, didn’t have that great a videogame from the reviews I’ve read. And Ubisoft has such a wide variety of videogames, albeit movie based games aren’t their most common, that it’s hard to nkow what to expect. So we will just have to wait and see. June 6
@ Mike dutton: That documentary sounds very interesting. I vaguely remember hearingabout it a long time ago but forgot to look into it. I will check that out. Thanks!
@ Stephen
You’re right. I guess I’m just overly sceptical. I am prepared to give this movie a chance as well as the game. Also, I kind of enjoyed Golden Fleece. It was the best adaptation of Tintin for its time, and even though there are fake beards and other weird things, the acting is decent and the story is very well put together, at least compared to its sequel Blue Oranges.
But yeah, like you said, we ought to wait for the 6th of June before we say anything…
May 4th, 2011 at 1:54 pmThe problem is that most movie game adaptions suck because they’re rushed so they get out on same date as movie release date :/
May 4th, 2011 at 2:20 pmI’ll give it a chance
