Secret of the Unicorn to be a Christmas Gift to America
It is being reported that the Tintin movie, Secret of the Unicorn will be released in the US on December 23rd 2011. However in will be released in Europe two months earlier in October or early November 2011. This makes sense as Tintin is already much larger in Europe than the states. The (hopefully) large audiences in Europe will help generate a wave of hype for Tintin in the US and help overcome US hostility to a very European hero.

Where does the information about the books used for the movie come from?
While the title makes clear that “Unicorn” is a vital part – who said, that “Crab” will be part of the movie?
Does it come only from the role names in the cast list? Did one of the officials ever say something about it?
What about “Rackham”? Anybody ever said, that it is _not_ included in the movie? That it will be basis for the second movie?
Calculus/Tournesol is not on the cast list for the first movie – for me that doesn’t mean that they don’t find the treasure. Any other information about that?
In the end, the cast list for part 2 will clear up things

A lot of the information comes from the special edition of Empire Magazine that Spielberg guest edited. See: http://tintinmovie.org/2009/04/23/tintin-in-empire-magazine-highights/
However some of this has been apparent from when the first cast list was announced: http://tintinmovie.org/2007/10/28/tintin-movie-casting-begins/
Calculus only appears in Red Rackham and it has been stated by Spielberg that the first film will end just before the end of the book of Secret of the Unicorn. My guess is that they stop at the point the Bird Brothers are arrested and everything seems wrapped up but before the Brothers conveniently escape again.
Who will play Calculus? I’ve no idea. It is an important role and most of the big roles have gone to well known actors, many of whom have worked with one or other of the Directors in the past. Will Spielberg be tempted by Tom Hanks or Jackson by Jack Black?
